FINS PATH TO PLAYOFFS EXPLAINED
Phinzone's Forum member FtlDolfan breaks down how Cam Wake and YOUR Miami Dolphins can make it to the playoffs this year.
Here is how I think the Dolphins could make the playoffs as the #6 seed in the AFC.
I think a minimum of 3-1 is required. Ideally we would win all remaining Conference games but lets say we beat the Cardinals and go 2-1 against our division rivals. That would get us to 10-6 and a 7-5 Conference record.
If the Broncos go 2-2 and also finish at 10-6 then the Dolphins and Broncos would both be 10-6 with a 7-5 Conference record. The problem is with the next tiebreaker which is common opponents with a minimum of 4 games. We have 5 common games which are the Chargers, Patriots, Titans and Bengals. Right now they are 2-1 and we are 1-3. The only way we can even finish tied with them at 2-3 is if they lose to the Titans and Patriots and we beat the Patriots. Then we would be screwed on the next tiebreaker which is strength of victory. Since we already have 2 wins against the Browns 0-12 and the 49ers 1-11 and we need to beat the Jets who are now 3-9 we won't be winning this tiebreaker. So we are going to have to finish with a better record than the Broncos so we either need to go 4-0 and hope they go 2-2 or go 3-1 and hope they go 1-3.
We want the Steelers to beat the Bills which would end any chance they have to reach 10 wins. We can figure out who we would rather win the game against the Ravens when they play each other based on what their records are.
We want them to lose to the Patriots which would basically ensure that both the Ravens and Steelers can't reach 10 wins so if the Steelers beat the Ravens they can't finish any better than 9-7 and if the Ravens beat the Steelers they can't finish any better than 10-6 and we own the tiebreaker over them.
We want the Steelers to beat the Bills which would eliminate any chance of them reaching 10 wins.
Here is what to root for next week:
Dolphins beat Cardinals
Titans beat Broncos
Steelers beat Bills
Patriots beat Ravens
