Miami Dolphins Now Hiring...NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Adam Gase hired as Head Coach. What was the team thinking!?!?
If football were a lighter than air craft, the Dolphins would be the Hindenberg. Oh the humanity...
Why on earth would this team stand up at the end of the season and proclaim that this time they are going to make a splash. They are going to get it right and turn this franchise around. And then promptly go out and sign someone who has no experience, and no recognizable accomplishments? What are they thinking??
Of course I have read the fan comments who are supportive, and they point out that Gase worked with Peyton Manning for three years, and Cutler improved under him. I also have read that he is one of the "hot" names. So why do I think this is a disaster? I can explain in a couple of simple points.
- The team executives, and many fans, are touting him as a QB guru and that he should get Tannehill to the next level. I think when you coach Peyton Manning, you probably get more coaching than you give. Manning will always make the staff look good. I mean really could someone look like a bad QB guy coaching one of the top 3 QBs of all time? He marginally improved Cutler in Chicago. But overall nothing to be the "Hot Choice".
- And what about the rest of the team? The defense and offensive line are in a way worse state than the QB. Where are his credentials to fix these? Hear me say that the growth of Tannehill is not the biggest need of this team. Turning this horrible defense and horrible O Line around is the recipe for relevance. If we had a top 10 defense, and a top 10 O Line to go with Tannehill as he is now, we would be a playoff team and contender.
- He brought in a DB Coach to fix the defense who is as inexperienced as he his. Where is he resume? This guy hasn't even a run defense before and now he is supposed to handle Suh and company? Oh boy.
- They say they would leave no stone unturned, yet didn't wait to interview Mike Shula?
Look, I am not disparaging the "potential" of these guys. But if I was going to hire a promising young coach I would have hired Dan Campbell. At least you know in him you have a leader of men and he has the commitment of the players. Now you are going to take all of those men who were playing tug of war and running through walls for Campbell and put in front of them that wobbly, nervous 37 year old guy from yesterday's press conference? Oh boy...Gase may have lost the locker room before he stepped into it. Not really an inspiring guy at this point.
The overall sentiment of the fans and the overall position of this team was that it was time to make a statement and bring in someone who could fix this team. A Coughlin or a Shannahan. Even a Mora or Mike Smith. Someone who had been at the helm of a winning NFL team and lived the culture. It seems that the powers to be don't want an experienced leader who will tell them what they are doing wrong and how to do things. From this point it looks like Tannenbaum wants someone who won't challenge him. Well they need to be challenged when the results for decades have tarnished what was once a premiere franchise in sports and now has become equivalent to the Cleveland Browns in its ongoing display of ineptness. And I mean ineptness in every way. Getting players, winning games, and hiring coaches and executives. What a shame. Stephen Ross shame on you for blowing it yet again and giving us assurance that we will have nothing but 5 more years of embarrassment. Shame on you for casting years of ugly shadows on the legacy of the proud coaches and players who made this team great. Oh the humanity...
