Starters Look Solid Again In a Loss
Lose to Panthers 31-30 in Second Preseason Game
Well Dolphins fans have been looking for proof that things are different this year. If you focus on the performance of the first team offense and defense through the first two preseason games there is plenty to feel good about. Tonight the defense looked dominant and held Carolina out of the end zone and limited their scoring to just FGs and Ryan Tannehill took control of the game on offense. Tannehill threw 2 TDs and Miami took a 14-9 lead into half time. Miami was able to push that to 21-9 halfway through the third. Then the game went through a variety of errors and bad play as both teams benches scrapped out a dramatic finish which saw Miami ultimately on the losing end. But the story for Dolphins fans was the performance of the first team units. There is no doubt that this year Tannehill is at a different level. He is in control, making good decisions, and extremely accurate. And in this game he did go deep twice. One attempt was off target and overthrown by a good five yards but the second was a beauty dropped into the arms of new TE Jordan Cameron who dropped it. But it was a good throw by Tannehill. Oh and if you are looking for the unsung star of the game one player has stood out two weeks in a row now. Reshard Jones has been blowing up runs in the backfield and has looked every bit like a solid starting strong safety.
There are a few of the back up players showing some playing ability. Both back up RBs Damien Williams and LaMichael James look really solid which really makes you wonder how Jai Ajayai is going to make the team. Hard to imagine the Dolphins keep four backs, so someone talented will be cut. On defense Zach Vigil at LB continues to be all over the field, and rookie DT Jordan Phillips is flashing the talent that gives hope that he will be a future starter.
So far so good Dolphins fans. And when Davante Parker and Brandon Albert make their way on to the field this team will just get better.
