FINS ARE FLAT IN 24-14 LOSS TO COWBOYS
Tony Romo made a triumphant return Sunday as the Cowboys rolled into a soggy showdown with our hometown Dolphins. Under an on again and off again downpour the Cowboys found a strong running game, a stingy defense and just enough Romo magic to pull off the road win. The Dolphins at times seemed to have things going, but mistake after mistake made it seem like they were really never a threat to win. Even when they managed to tie it up in the 3rd quarter 14-14 they just didn't rise to the occasion. They couldn't sustain the momentum and the Cowboys were the team that was hungrier and just put the hammer down and put the game away with two scores and shut Miami out on the way to a solid win.
The Dolphins continue to struggle to put things together and get continuity. There are glimpses of potential, and some talented players, but the ugly issues that lead to losses will not go away. Bad coverage by Jamar Taylor is a weekly nightmare. Poor run defense fueled by poor linebacker play is problem. The inability to handle opponents Tight Ends is also still a big issue. The blue print on how to beat the Miami Dolphins has been made and each week we see teams attack these weaknesses. We only win when our strengths, such as our pass rush, rushing game and passing game scores us more than the opponent. The problem is that our offense doesn't know who they are. sometimes they seem like a power running team behind Lamar Miller and Jay Ajayi and it works. Then they get away from running and start throwing. They have drives where they are aggressive and stretch the field then it is nothing but two and three yard passes and very tight. No real identity has been established and it just feels like confusion. One of the of the biggest problems is the penalties. They are just killing this team as the continue week after week to make stupid mistakes at critical times. Perhaps all of these issues are coaching, or perhaps they just have issues with talent. Or both. But Miami will have much to figure out as the season turns toward the home stretch so they can get their arms around their off-season strategy.
